With respect to proportion, the different elements of your face should balance in relation with each other to produce a natural, beautiful look. A nose might be straight and nicely shaped, but be too large for one’s face. Similarly, lips might have a beautiful line, but be too thin. A pronounced and square jaw might be an attractive feature (but generally only if the cheekbones are complimentary and commensurate). A perfectly normal chin and jawline can be obscured by a fatty neck. Each individual feature should, in and of itself, be well proportioned, yet should, in concert, play a role in balancing the overall proportion of the face to produce facial harmony. The elements that can be altered to improve facial proportion can be divided into two categories: one, structural; two, soft tissue. Structural -- includes the manipulation and alteration of firm landmarks of the face such as the nose, cheekbones, and chin. Soft Tissue – includes the augmenting and alteration of the lips, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and anywhere that soft-tissue filler or fat can be used to produce an aesthetically pleasing contour. An often-overlooked, yet sometimes quite dramatic, deep soft-tissue alteration would include the reduction of removal of Bichat’s fat pads to eliminate a “chipmunk” (puffy-cheeked) appearance. Using a number of these techniques to adjust facial proportions, Dr. Weintraub has the experience and skill to harmonize your face in a pleasing way. Dr. Weintraub's Viewpoint: Catherine Zeta-Jones Catherine Zeta-Jones is a beautiful woman with exquisite facial proportions. She has sultry bedroom eyes, emphasized by nicely arched brows, and her face is healthy and full. There are several cosmetic procedures that can help you achieve this look. These include eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), brow lift, and fat transplantation to enhance certain areas of the face, such as plumping the upper lid to create bedroom eyes.
